Welcome to the Clinical Trial Selector
This Clinical Trial Selector tool can help you find trials you may be eligible for based on your medical conditions.
After logging in to either the VA or CMS portals, the tool will securely use information in your records to search for eligible trials.
Who can use this tool?
The Clinical Trial Selector is available to:
- Veterans who have obtained care at VA medical facilities
- Medicare beneficiaries
What do I need to sign on and use the tool?
Veterans need one of these free accounts:
- An Advanced or Premium My HealtheVet account, or:
- A Premium DS Logon account (used for eBenefits and milConnect), or:
- A verified ID.me account that you can create here
- A Medicare.gov free account
Do I have to enter all of my information in order to find eligible trials?
No. After you log into your account and provide permission, the tool will automatically retrieve the necessary information in your records in order to generate a list of eligible trials for which you may be eligible.
What information from my records is used to search for trials?
We retrieve the following information from your records:
- A list of medical conditions (diagnoses)
- Results of specific laboratory tests
- Your age and gender
- Your Zip Code (to provide distance to trials)
Can I enroll in trials through this tool?
The Clinical Trial Selector provides a list of possible trials that you may be eligible for. Due to a variety of factors, you may not actually be eligible to be enrolled in some of the trials returned by the tool. It is meant to provide an initial list for consideration between you and your doctor.
Please consult with your doctor directly regarding any trials or information you may be provided in this tool. This tool is not meant to provide medical advice.
Do you store or share my medical information?
No. We do not store any of your information. The data we obtain from your records with your permission is used only once, without any identifying characteristics such as name or id numbers. The tool connects to a database of clinical trials maintainted by the U.S. National Cancer Institute, and we only provide a list of medical conditions, age, and gender, without identifying the patient, to obtain a list of possible trials.
After you log out or finish using the tool, nothing is kept on our servers. Whenever you wish to return and perform another search you must log in again using your VA and/or Medicare account.
I do not wish to share my information. Can I use this tool?
When you log in with your VA and/or CMS account, you will be asked for permission to share your data with the Clinical Trial Selector . If you choose not to allow for your data to be shared, or only share your medical information (but not your age and gender) we will not have the information necessary to perform a trial search and thus you will not be able to use the tool.
